PIAZZA DI SPAGNA AND TRINITÀ DEI MONTI
Piazza di Spagna is undoubtedly one of the most famous squares in Rome, among the most celebrated in the world. The name comes from the Palazzo di Spagna, the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See.
At the centre of the square is the famous Barcaccia Fountain, sculpted by Pietro Bernini and his son Gian Lorenzo.
At the foot of the Pincian Hill, Piazza di Spagna has always been the centre of cultural and tourist life in Rome, and not surprisingly many fashion designers have chosen to open their stores right here.
The square is dominated by Trinita dei Monti, the church at the top of the hill, connected by the famous staircase known as the Spanish Steps, built between 1723 and 1726 by the Roman architect Francesco De Sanctis.
Piazza di Spagna, the Spanish Steps and the church of Trinita dei Monti is a setting that is unique anywhere in the world, a postcard that is a symbol of the city of Rome. Elegant and charming, it has a refined, eighteenth-century atmosphere and is a cultural heritage of inestimable value.
